Rick Warren Dirtbag Update: Now He Says Domestic Abuse is No Excuse for Divorce

burning-bedApparently beating your wife counts as pro-family for Rick Warren.

The Associated Baptist Press is reporting that our beloved inaugural pastor teaches that being beaten on a regular basis by your husband is no reason for women to seek a divorce:

In audio clips on his Saddleback Church website, the Purpose Driven Life author says the Bible condones divorce for only two reasons — adultery and abandonment.

“I wish there were a third in Scripture, having been involved as a pastor with situations of abuse,” Warren said. “There is something in me that wishes there were a Bible verse that says, ‘If they abuse you in this-and-such kind of way, then you have a right to leave them.’”

This of course comes on the heels of the disgusting revelations of Warren’s AIDS work in Africa (which is supposed to make up for his homophobia), which revealed his close alliance with a Ugandan minister who got his government to go on witch hunts against gays, to the point that some activists were forced to go into hiding.

Well, maybe since pissing of the gays wasn’t enough to get this guy booted from the inauguration, maybe pissing off women will help put another nail in his political coffin. [Associated Baptist Press]

My friends tried to convince me to go to the Inauguration since I live a whole 5 minutes away.

But with Rick Warran I shall pass.

His hate and evil serve no place in an inauguration.

I know how you feel. I’m going myself, but I’m still trying to figure out what I’m going to do when Pastor Rick starts up.

My problem with his is that by allowing him to speak Obama seems to be legitamizing his beliefs. Also what if Rick Warren decides to go off on a tangent and start preaching? What is going to happen then?

Rick Warren’s probably too smart to say anything controversial at the inauguration.

I almost hope he does though, because it would be a PR disaster for both Warren and Obama, which means the gays could make Obama eat a big slice of humble pie and make some high-profile concessions for gay rights.

Besides, anything Warren says that goes beyond the blandly general would probably piss off way more people than just us, so then public opinion might swing our way for a while.

    So cross your fingers!
